Coffee...:/ :) L:(

 1 Preliminary thought

I used to really love reading David Foster Wallace so I thought that the longer the better. But this is just a blog, not Infinite Jest, so I realized it's okay if my posts aren't like super long. Btw I was thinking of recording Little Expressionless Animals and posting it on YouTube. Let me know in the comments down below if I should do that. I wonder if David Foster Wallace liked drinking a lot of coffee when writing. I read somewhere that he said he only actually wrote for one hour a day and the rest of the day he was biting his knuckles. I find that kind of relatable.

(Edit: Nov. 5, I looked up Little Expressionless Animals, and the full thing is not on the Paris Review website like I thought it was, there's a paywall. So I'll have to borrow it from the library and not have my mom get mad at me for reading David Foster Wallace when I borrow it from the library).

2 Is coffee a drug?

Algo that always intrigued/bothered me was whether coffee should be classified as a drug. Like not as a Schedule I drug or something, but whether caffeine should be considered a drug in the same way as like cocaine, heroine, or even marijuana. (Note: wait, those are schedule I drugs, except mairjuana no longer is.) I feel like it stimulizes me, it occurs over a long period of time, I have withdrawals, and I have cravings. Kind of like other drugs. The only thing is that it is #normalized and normal to go to a café and have a coffee with other people. Idk. I just felt like I drank like five cups of coffee over the course of a day a couple days ago and that was kind of a lot. Maybe too much. Maybe it's all in moderation.

But I kind of feel like coffee is kind of a drug and maybe should be regulated more...Like maybe you can only buy a certain amount of it for a certain period of time at the grocery store. Maybe it is is regulated, in a social sense. People can sense when you've had a lot of coffee. Or, at least, I feel like people can tell when I've had a lot of coffee.  (If you want to read about me giving too much espresso to customers at a cafe I used to work at, read "Champagne French Toyota redux" here ---->> https://60secondfairytales.blogspot.com/2024/11/champagne-french-toyota-redux.html).

3 Coffee alternatives

Sometimes I feel like I drink coffee because I don't want to just drink water because it's boring to just drink water. But there are other ways of drinking water in more interesting ways, like drinking iced water, hot water , warm water, or green tea. Yes, green tea. I feel like green tea is just upgraded water, unlike coffee, which I feel like I one step below cocaine.

I feel like another coffee alternative is like doom-scrolling on Twitter (x...). It kind of has the same stimulaizing, staying awake effect.

4 Dreams

I had a really interesting dream last night. I had a dream where I was back in liberal arts college, and I was at an orchestra rehearsal, and I met this cute white boy named Ben who played the cello. I was super talkative and talking his ear off and he was quiet. I was just talking and talking and he followed me to a ki I was having with my friends, where I continued talking. I can't remember any exact talking points, but I just remember I was talking a lot. When I woke up, I imagined it as an A24 movie where a heartbroken soul (maybe a senior, someone older) is friends with a freshman and takes him under his wing, kind of Perks of Being a Wallflower-style, and then s's his d at some point, (just for cinematic dramatic effect...). I don't know, I felt like it would be a good movie this morning in the car. But anyways the point of me saying this is I also feel like I have better dreams when I DON'T drink coffee, which is another pro to not drinking coffee.
